Children of the Sun

Acrylics on canvas, 17'' by 21''

When I was a kid I traveled through the Andes and witnessed the poverty and hopelessness of my war torn people.

I painted this in rememberance of those great masses of people in my beloved Peru - always living under the sun and wishing for a better future.

In Harris' Land

Acrylics on panel, 30'' by 30''

The encounter of two worlds, two realities. A story of loneliness in an adverse environment. The untold truth of struggle in a society of political correctness.

Lágrimas de Luna

Acrylics on canvas, 23'' by 27''

In the Peruvian Andes there is an old Inca belief that silver found in ancient mines is tears from the moon and these are sacred. History has not being kind to these people or their beliefs. Now there are no more tears, only a laconic memory of how things used to be.

Mother and Child

Acrylics on canvas, 28'' by 68''

This painting is about the promise of protection a mother gives to her child. This is a universal theme of nurturing, love and hope for the future. I tried to capture the specific moment when a mother promises in her heart to care for that new life regardless of circumstances. I tried to capture the unconditional love that is the reason why each one of us is alive and still here: because one woman dared to love selflessly

Seeds of Hope

Acrylics on canvas, 17'' by 21''

They live and breath the land for very little reward.  They work from sun-up to dusk in unknown and forsaken places. Their toil fattens the bellies of the rulers of this world. But they always smile, they will always share their last hard potato with you and they will keep planting the seeds of hope.

Stars, Sand & Wind

Acrylics on panel, 30'' by 30''

Often in the morning I see lines of cars waiting at coffee shops; throngs of people eager to buy the fix of the day. I cannot help but wonder if they ever think about those who cultivate the coffee for their brew, so far removed, so distant, almost belonging to another planet.

I decided to paint the morning counterpart to this Monday morning scene - the coffee grower who wakes up before dawn while the stars still shine, walking on sand and against wind to fight for a dream of prosperity and dignity while at the same time providing for our pleasure.

Vendor of Flowers

Acrylics on canvas, 27.5'' by 36''

On a corner of the third world she sells flowers to make a living. During the long day she wispers to the child on her back: "Do not fill your heart with resentment. In the slumber of their comfort justice will come from above".

The Last Supper

Acrylics on canvas, 2' by 4'

This painting was inspired by a picture I saw taken during the earthquake in Peru. People were standing by the road waiting for help. A passerby offered a bag of bread - the last supper.

Standing on a corner of the Third World
Acrylics on canvas, 48'' by 48''

After a long day of work the prospects do not look any better and every effort has been in vane. The stereotipical siesta will never happen. How many times have I seen this scene, the same self-perpetuating story?... All in the name of freedom and progress.

This painting is not available.

Winter Memories
Acrylics on canvas, 36'' by 48''

I look to the sky hoping for some kind of divine intervention. The promised land: impersonal, materialistic and cold. When will they open their eyes and think for themselves, I wonder. I look to the sky and see ghosts of people dancing under the fireworks of a reality long gone. Warm, poor and happy. I walk and look to the sky. While the snow talks under my feet, I remember.

Destino
Mixed media, 16'' by 20''

¿Adonde iremos a parar? Engaños e ilusiones rotas: este es el destino de Latinoamérica... hasta que aprendamos a decidir.
