themes that spring from social issues pertaining to social justice, equality and ethics. The gallery contains a collection of commisioned pieces and paintings with a Latin American style.
My painting emulates the Latin American reality - the customs, the culture, and the issues; my goal is to bring together that world and the North American experience. I retain the iconography of the Peruvian painting tradition, using folkloric symbols to humanize or give an identity to the great masses of people that lie behind the title “Latin America”. I use heavily textured surfaces to give the painting a tactile dimension that enhances the viewer’s experience of the piece and to make the image more of a present reality and not just a graphic illusion about some people who live somewhere to the south.
